Nextgen Blur – Privacy Policy
Last updated: 23 February 2025
Prominent disclosure
Nextgen Blur collects limited information about how the extension is used (for example, which blur/block rules are active and basic technical information) and may send this to our dashboard at tools.zifi.uk so we can provide parental controls and usage insights. We do not sell your data. You can disable data sending at any time in the extension’s settings.
This Privacy Policy explains how Nextgen Blur (“the Extension”, “we”, “us”, or “our”) collects, uses, and shares information when you use our Chrome extension and the associated dashboard at tools.zifi.uk/Nextgen_Blur/index.htm (“Dashboard”). Nextgen Blur is designed to block and blur content for young children to help parents, guardians, and schools—including primary schools and high schools—manage what learners see online.
By installing or using the Extension, and by using the Dashboard, you agree to the collection and use of information as described in this policy.
1. Purpose of the Extension
Nextgen Blur has a single purpose: to block and blur content for young children when they use the browser. It is used in the home by parents and guardians, and in education settings by schools, including primary schools and high schools, to protect pupils from inappropriate content. All data we collect is limited to what is needed to provide this functionality and any related controls or usage insights on the Dashboard.
2. Information We Collect
2.1 From the Extension
- Blur and block settings – Which rules, keywords, or categories you have enabled (e.g. blur certain words or types of content).
- Usage of the extension – For example, when blur/block rules are applied, which options you change, and whether the extension is enabled or disabled. This helps us improve the product and show usage in the Dashboard.
- Technical information – Browser type and version, extension version, and basic error or performance information so we can fix issues.
We do not collect the full text of pages you visit, your browsing history, passwords, or personal messages. We only use what is necessary to apply blur/block rules and to support the Dashboard.
2.2 From the Dashboard
- Account information – If you sign in (e.g. email, name, or organisation), we store what you provide to manage your account.
- Configuration – Rules, schedules, and preferences you set for the Extension (e.g. which sites or content types to blur or block).
- Log data – When you use the Dashboard we may log IP address, timestamps, and request details for security and operation.
3. How We Use the Information
- To provide blur and block functionality in the browser.
- To sync your settings and show usage or insights on the Dashboard (e.g. when rules were applied).
- To improve the Extension and Dashboard (e.g. fixing bugs, improving performance).
- To protect our services and users (e.g. security and abuse prevention).
- To comply with applicable laws.
We do not use your data for advertising or sell it to third parties.
4. How We Share the Information
We do not sell your personal or sensitive user data.
We may share data only in these limited cases:
- Service providers – Vendors that help us run the Extension and Dashboard (e.g. hosting). They process data on our instructions only.
- Legal reasons – When required by law or to protect rights, safety, or security.
- Business transfers – If our service is merged or sold, data may transfer; we will continue to protect it and notify where required.
We may share aggregated, anonymised information that cannot identify you or your children.
5. Data Retention
We keep your data only as long as needed to provide the Extension and Dashboard, to comply with law, and to resolve disputes. We may delete or anonymise data after a set period (e.g. logs) unless we must keep it longer.
6. Your Choices and Consent
- Consent – Before we collect or send data to the Dashboard, we will clearly tell you what we collect and ask for your consent (e.g. an “Accept” or “I agree” step). You can decline.
- Opt out in the Extension – You can turn off sending data to the Dashboard in the extension’s options/settings. After that, no new data will be sent (existing data may remain as per our retention policy).
- Local-only use – If the Extension supports an “offline” or “local only” mode, you can use it so that data is stored only on the device and not sent to our servers.
- Uninstall – Uninstalling the Extension stops all further collection.
- Access and deletion – You can request access to or deletion of your data by contacting us (see below).
7. Children’s Privacy
Nextgen Blur is intended to be used by parents, guardians, or schools (including primary and high schools) to protect young children and pupils. We do not knowingly collect personal information directly from children. Any data we process is set up and controlled by the adult account holder or the school. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information without your consent, please contact us and we will take steps to delete it.
8. Security
We use reasonable measures (such as encryption in transit and access controls) to protect your information. No system is completely secure; we do not guarantee absolute security but we work to protect your data.
9. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy. If we make important changes, we will update the “Last updated” date and, where appropriate, notify you via the Extension or Dashboard. Continued use after changes means you accept the updated policy.
